To say no

I hear the door creak open in the night
And pull the covers around me tight
A swift tug at my hair makes me shiver
Over me he stands and I quiver

He does things I won’t even dream in my nightmares
To him it does not matter, I don’t think he cares
I try to say no, first in a whisper and then in a scream
Before he quiets me down with a ream

Every night I practice to say no, no, no!
The abuse continues though
The words I plea do not help one little bit
Perhaps actions will make him forever sit

I wait for the door to open and clutch a gun under the cover
Right until before me he will hover
With one look at the hideous figure
I say no for the last time and pull the trigger
