I Am the Catcher in the Rye

Bidding farewell to the disappointment in your eyes,
Watching my behaviour meet its torturous demise.

I am forced to remove the splinter from my soul,
To make my dream of being the Catcher in the Rye whole.

You can choose to find it in yourself to accept,
For my shady and dubious past puts me in your debt.

From the confines of my guilt-ridden attitude,
I need to repent and ask forgiveness for my ludicrous mood.

A wall of distrust I have built, yet society wades knee-deep in it themselves,
Forgive me or don’t, since we all just walk the earth to protect ourselves.
