In fair Verona, where the story’s told,
Of love too quick and passions overgrown,
Of Romeo, whose heart too freely roamed,
And Juliet, just thirteen years old.
Her parents sought a marriage to uphold
The family’s name and wealth, it was known,
But love, unbidden, in her heart had grown,
And plans for nuptials did themselves unfold.
The friar, with knowledge of the earth and sky,
Sought a potion to end the child within,
But his plan failed, and Juliet was left to die,
Her hope for happiness just a whim.
And yet, amidst the sorrow and the strife,
We see that youth and love are fragile things in life.
